Mobilizing the next gen into the skilled trades

The U.S. is facing a major labor shortages across the skilled trades and construction industry that’ll only be exacerbated over the next decade with an aging workforce. This shortage impairs our ability to maintain and build new infrastructure and could derail even our best efforts to meet our decarbonization goals. The U.S. is in dire need of new, diverse talent pouring in across the skilled trades, and a new narrative written to address the outdated stereotypes and stigmas that have plagued the trades for decades. This work is the backbone of our country, an engine of economic mobility, critical the clean energy transition, and arguably will be the most stable for decades to come.

If you can see it, you can believe it

The Skilled Project is redefining the skilled trades narrative, infusing it with dignity, opportunity, power, and fulfillment, so that young people everywhere can explore these careers as viable and valuable paths and feel empowered doing it.

We see storytelling as an immediate first lever to inspire and shine light into the skilled labor jobs of today, while highlighting the critical role the skilled trades play in decarbonizing our built environment and the net new skilled jobs arising from the clean energy transition.

We strive to shift cultural value of these jobs, raise awareness of the different opportunities, and help the next generation see themselves in these careers.

Amanda Luchetti is a mom, Petaluma CA resident, and a professional generalist who loves a challenge. She has spent the last six years immersing herself in the climate crisis – from working on carbon offsets to co-founding a climate-focused studio & consultancy. As we usher in this new climate economy, the one thing she continues to be drawn to are the skilled trades, who she sees as linchpins in the clean energy transition. The trades are also near and dear to her heart. Her father has spent his entire career in the construction trades, a choice that has provided so much opportunity for her.
